First soprano Edey Cross brings a lifelong love of harmony to the Chester River Chorale. Raised in a music-loving family, she and her sister learned “oldies” on road trips and at family gatherings, with their mother accompanying on ukulele. With both parents active in Barbershop and Sweet Adelines, choral singing came naturally: Edey sang in church and high school choirs and, at Michigan State University, performed in Greek Sing. A versatile musician, she also plays piano and dabbled in clarinet and flute in band.
Edey is a proud member of the Chester River Chamber Singers, where she serves as Soprano Section Leader and on the Board, contributing all that she can.
Born in California, Edey has lived in Seattle, Washington, and in Michigan—where she earned a degree in Special Education from Michigan State University—before returning to California, meeting her husband, Chuck, and starting a family. Her professional life has been equally diverse: Deputy Sheriff in San Diego, manager of a Christian radio station, Special Education Resource Specialist at the high school level, and, prior to retirement, a real estate agent. Beyond music, she is active in Garden Club, Book Club, and several community committees and enjoys traveling. She especially treasures time with her eight grandchildren—three in Pennsylvania, two on the Western Shore, and three in Northern Virginia—who keep her life as joyful and lively as a well-tuned chorus.
