Kathy Ruckman

Kathy moved to Chestertown in December 2016 from Bethesda, MD. An avid amateur singer, musician, and mother of four musician children, she has been thrilled to find the many musical opportunities here in Chestertown, especially the Chester River Chorale, where she sings Alto 2. She is also a member of the choir of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown, and she serves as a trained volunteer mediator for Community Mediation Upper Shore.

In the DC area, Kathy sang in the Washington Women’s Chorus. She was also thrilled to be a founding board member of the Children’s Chorus of Washington, which was established in 1996 and remains the premier children’s chorus for the nation’s capital.

Kathy is a retired attorney. She spent most of her legal career as a specialist in international family law. She worked first at the National Center for Missing Children in Alexandria, VA, then at the Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs in Washington, DC, where she served as an attorney advisor and as the Deputy Director of the Office of Children’s Issues. Before going to law school at GW University, she was a trained tutor for the Kingsbury Center and worked with children in many schools in the DC area.
